Forklift dashboard warning lights chart
The warning lights you are most likely to see on a Forklift.

On a forklift, a red warning light means park the truck and check it before you lift again, while an amber light means service or attention is due. The exact icons vary between diesel, LPG and electric trucks, but the colors follow the same logic across every make.

Red lights: park and check

These point to engine, brake or hydraulic problems that get worse quickly under load.

Engine Oil Pressure

Low oil pressure on an engine truck.

What to do: Stop the engine and check the oil level.

Coolant Temperature

The engine is overheating.

What to do: Idle down, park, and let it cool before checking coolant.

Charging / Battery

Charging fault on an IC truck, or low charge on an electric one.

What to do: Have the charging system or battery checked before more use.

Brake System

A brake fault or low brake fluid.

What to do: Park the truck and have the brakes inspected.

Hydraulic Oil

Hydraulic oil is hot or low.

What to do: Lower the forks, idle to cool, and check the level.

Amber lights: service and reminders

You can usually finish the shift, but flag these to maintenance.

Preheat

Glow plugs warming on a diesel truck.

What to do: Wait for it to go out before starting.

Mast / Lift

A mast or lift-system alert.

What to do: Check the mast and hydraulics, and report it.

Overload

The load is near or over the rated capacity.

What to do: Reduce the load to stay within the data plate rating.

P

Parking Brake

The parking brake is applied.

What to do: Release it fully before driving off.

Low Fuel

Fuel or LPG is running low.

What to do: Refuel or swap the LPG bottle.

Seat Belt

The operator seat belt is not fastened.

What to do: Buckle up before operating.

Reading the lights safely

Watch the cluster during the start-up bulb check and do a quick walk-around each shift. If a red symbol stays on, park the truck, tag it out and report it, because a forklift fault under load is a safety issue, not just a maintenance one. On electric trucks the battery discharge indicator matters most, since lifting with a nearly flat battery can damage it.

Common questions

What does the wrench or spanner light mean on a forklift?

A wrench or service symbol means a scheduled service is due or the truck has logged a fault. Report it so a technician can read the codes and reset the interval.

Why is my forklift losing power?

Engine trucks cut power for overheating or a sensor fault, while electric trucks slow down as the battery discharges. Check the matching warning light to see which applies.

What is the battery symbol on an electric forklift?

It is the battery discharge indicator. As it drops toward the red segment, recharge soon, because lifting with a deeply discharged battery shortens its life.
